Customization is key at Schumacher Homes, which is why we’re continually innovating, designing new floor plans ready for adaptation to your very own wants and needs. One of our newest plans, the Glenmoor, was designed as an open-style floor plan with the convenience of single-floor living as a key element. Every feature that our homeowners love about our spacious ranch plans has been thoughtfully incorporated into this more efficient, 1800 sq.ft. home that lives much larger than its actual footprint thanks to some key architectural and design features.
When designing the Glenmoor, as with many of our homes, we focused first on the kitchen and grew the plan from there. We know from our very own family gatherings that friends, relatives, and children tend to congregate where the food is being prepared. There is a reason that the kitchen is often referred to as the “heart” of the home, as this is where the pulse of the household resides. Naturally, this led us to design a space where cooking and mingling could happen harmoniously. The professionally designed kitchen not only features a center range, an enclosed pantry, and plenty of counter and cabinet space, but we designed a large center island that can easily seat a family of four when dinner is served or allow numerous friends to rest their glasses during a gathering.
One design challenge that can come from a centrally located kitchen is that it is often hard to find ways to let in natural light. This is why we located a morning room directly adjacent to the kitchen within the Glenmoor design. With this additional nook, we’ve created a cozy space that allows a wealth of sunlight to sweep across the counters and floors, providing your family with an abundance of natural warmth in which to enjoy a home cooked meal or to read the news while enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee in the morning.
Continuing that inspiration, in an effort to build a floor plan that allows air and light to flow freely, we joined the large, open, great room with the kitchen and morning room to create the perfect space for entertaining friends or gathering family. This open-style arrangement is ideal for sitting and chatting, sharing old memories and creating new ones all while keeping those working on their favorite recipes in the kitchen just as connected to the excitement, never missing a moment.
Design Idea - Sloped Cathedral Ceiling
This feature draws the eye upward to create a sense of volume and spaciousness. A vaulted ceiling adds character and depth to otherwise ordinary rooms. Vaulted ceilings create the illusion of larger spaces and in this case, tie in two gathering spaces of the home - the great room and kitchen area - to create a sense of openness that can be fully appreciated while entertaining guests.
Moving towards the front of the home, we wanted to let our homeowners’ imaginations run wild with a space that uniquely fits their needs. The flex room in the Glenmoor plan allows just that. Whether you have always dreamt of a home office, would love to have a formal dining room from a proper holiday meal, or want to provide your kids with their own play area where they can go crazy, the option is there to do whatever it is that makes the most sense for you and your family. The choice is yours and our design team is eager to bring your ideas to life. Of course, if you need help with ideating the perfect space, we have countless great design ideas of our own that you can browse and discuss at your design and pricing meeting with a New Home Consultant who will help you get an idea of what design features might suit your needs and how those would affect your final budget.
Design Idea - Open stair railing
Modern metal railing creates a sense of openness and blends the flex space with the rest of the home. Ideal for an open play area for the kids, so parents can keep an eye on them while relaxing. This design also allows for natural light to fill the home.
Designing private areas of the home can be challenging in an open-floor plan as we need to create a moment for personal retreat in an otherwise open flow home. In addition, with modern design, we try to minimize any long hallways, maximizing the use of space, getting you the most out of your square footage and allowing sunlight to glow throughout your home. When designing the Glenmoor, we thought it would be ideal to create a split-bedroom floor plan as our homeowners tend to love this for their growing families. A split-bedroom plan places the owner's retreat on the opposite side of the home from the other bedrooms, giving both the adults and the children the privacy that they need, all while maximizing space. Our ultimate solution was to design a large private owner’s retreat, accessed through a private opening that blocks its entryway from sight in the more public areas of the home. An adjacent luxury in-suite bathroom provides the perfect spot to start your day or relax and recharge in the evening. Naturally, the owner's retreat is a space that many of our homeowners love to customize with stunning tile work and stand-up showers. Thanks to the welcome feedback from our current homeowners who always love more storage space, we also added a massive, walk-in closet to ensure enough space for clothes and otherwise.
Design Idea - Beam cathedral ceiling with shiplap finish
This feature takes the dramatic flair of a cathedral ceiling up a notch. The contrasting rustic faux beam laid against the in-layed shiplap finish draws the eye upward and extends downward into the room, giving this private space a grandiose and luxurious appearance.
To complete the split-bedroom concept, two generously sized bedrooms were added to the opposite side of the home, perfect for kids or guests, along with a full bathroom that can easily be shared. We also added a centrally located laundry room that doubles as a mudroom as it is conveniently placed between the kitchen and the garage. This room is well suited for bringing in large loads of groceries, dropping off sweaty sports gear directly to the laundry, or kicking the mud off of your boots before plopping down in your bright and spacious grand room.
As for the exterior of your home, the Glenmoor was designed with four unique exterior styles, each with their own characteristics and design elements. Here are a couple homeowner favorites.
Craftsman Exterior Style:
The timeless features of a craftsman style home have been thoughtfully incorporated into the Glenmoor craftsman elevation. We’ve designed this option with an expansive front porch supported by tapered columns with stone bases, ideal for lounging with a book as your kids play in the front yard or across the street with the neighbors. Decorative gable brackets (the wooden design at the peak of the triangles) accentuate the gentle slope of the roof lines, adding character and classic flair. And finally, a combination of tone on tone materials gives this particular elevation a stylish, contemporary panache.
Modern Farmhouse Exterior Style:
The modern farmhouse design is incredibly popular these days. Form meets function meets timelessness. In this elevation, the large front porch wraps all the way around the side of the home, creating a welcoming transitional space ideal for a swinging bench or a pair of rain soaked shoes to rest as you enjoy the warmth inside. The distinctive gable end roof brackets mirror clean, steep roof lines that mimic timeless country farmhouses built long ago, while the contrasting black window frames make it quite contemporary. The Glenmoor’s take on the modern farmhouse nods towards simpler times while being perfectly set here in the present.
