Shaina and Adam received more than a place to build their dream home when they inherited land in North Carolina. The property came from a 100-acre parcel divided into lots, each set aside for children in the family to inherit over time. The arrangement lets everyone live separately yet together, united by their family history.
So when Shaina and Adam planned to build on the lot, it wouldn’t just be their first custom home, but also likely their forever home. Whichever builder they chose had to understand that their new home would become part of their family’s story.
How family helped Shaina and Adam choose Schumacher Homes
Though they hadn’t taken on a custom build before, Shaina and Adam were familiar with Schumacher Homes. Adam’s route with FedEx often took him by the Schumacher Homes’ Greensboro location. Shaina knew of Schumacher, too, from her work in real estate.
But the clincher came from Shaina’s aunt. Based on her work experience at the local Zoning and Construction Code Office, she confirmed for Shaina that Schumacher Homes was a quality builder. With her aunt’s recommendation, Shaina and Adam visited the design studio. There, they toured models of the Olivia Craftsman and Beverly II Modern Hill Country home plans.
Finding the right plan for their forever home
Touring the Olivia model home, Shaina and Adam were struck by the design, but they also realized it wasn’t quite right. They needed to see other plans to find the best fit for their wants and budget. “Our New Home Consultant, Mike, really kept us within our budget as we worked through different plans to best meet our needs,” Shaina said. “Mike has been a saint. He went through about seven or eight plans to get us exactly what we wanted. He went above and beyond.”
With Mike’s help, Shaina and Adam chose the Linwood II, an American Tradition design with a classic Cape Cod exterior. The timeless look would age beautifully on their family’s land. Not to mention, the Linwood II’s open living areas, oversize front porch, and plentiful counter space made it easy for Shaina and Adam to envision entertaining all of their nearby relatives.
An uncertain time becomes a golden opportunity
When Shaina and Adam started looking for a custom builder in June of 2019, they couldn’t have anticipated how much the world would change early the following year. Yet even with the outbreak of COVID-19, the couple purchased their home in April 2020. Two things made them feel confident in their decision.
First, they had an eye-opening experience with Schumacher Homes’ exclusive, award-winning FrontDoor™ pricing system. Shaina and Adam may not have built a custom home before, but they felt ready thanks to how clearly the FrontDoor system summarized and visualized the process. Standard features, custom changes, lot prep and more all were organized into easy-to-follow documents.
Second, Shaina and Adam maximized their purchasing power by pouncing on historically low interest rates. That, combined with their current home already being financed by one of Schumacher Homes’ Preferred Lenders, set them up for a fast and smooth financing process.
Building a dream home during COVID-19
Like anyone else in troubling times, Shaina and Adam navigated a great deal of uncertainty to make their dream home a reality. For Shaina, that meant keeping a clear picture in her mind. “If you want something, you have to visualize it,” she said. From the moment she and Adam stepped into the model home, she thought, “This is going to be mine.”
We at Schumacher Homes are proud to help people like Shaina and Adam make their dreams of a custom home come true, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you also feel ready to build the home of your dreams, Schumacher Homes can do more than show you how to build it.
