Building a custom home means making choices, and selecting the perfect lighting is one of them. Customizing the lighting package is often an option when planning your home. It's easy to do, it increases the value of the home, and it gives a custom look and feel. Plus, it's also fun to have statement-making lighting in your new home – and be able to share the unique story behind the designs.
At Progress Lighting, each piece of lighting has an inspiration behind it- whether that’s the latest lifestyle design trend, new technology, or sometimes, personal memories.
Perhaps one of the hottest design trends today is Modern Farmhouse. The beloved Farmhouse trend has evolved, taking its best aspects and joining them with modern and even industrial elements that elevate the trend to a fresh, contemporary look. Mixed metals, glass, and warm wood are paired with the vintage touches, organic materials, and handmade pieces that are signature Farmhouse elements. Lighting moves from rustic iron chandeliers to more sophisticated styling of geometric, open-cage designs, mixed metals, and wood accents. The Bowman chandelier, pictured to the left, perfectly reflects Modern Farmhouse design with its classically curved arms, an overscale design, and clear chiseled glass shades that give an updated flair to this sophisticated fixture.
Bohemian is another design trend that’s evolving into a simpler but still lush aesthetic. Clean and minimal elements are combined with patterned décor to add a pop of color. The Cinq pendant, pictured below in the Charleston Earnhardt, crosses the line into a relaxed Bohemian vibe with its modern geometric designs and contrasting elements, making it an attention-grabber for all the right reasons.
Modern interiors model sleek design through the use of neutrals, a minimalist approach, and the use of glass décor and technology. New technology is key to a modern interior. Integrate innovations into a home's décor by adding elements of integrated LED lighting and remote-controlled light dimmers. The Atwell pendant was inspired by clean, modern interiors, with a frame that showcases an intricate blend of circular and a one-of-a-kind architectural design and a clean globe shade that softens and contrasts with the frame's sharp corners.
Sometimes, all it takes is a childhood memory to inspire a great lighting design. Dan McGinty, a product designer for Progress Lighting, designed the Medal pendant, which had its genesis in the designer's beloved Yamaha scooter of his youth. The Medal, pictured to the right, is an industrial-style pendant that embraces the iconic elements of double prismatic glass and a top wiring body or ballast box, which was the basis of Dan's inspiration. Medal's top cover is embossed with a star motif, a brand element from the Progress Lighting logo, that is reminiscent of the stamped cover over the gearbox of Dan's cherished Yamaha scooter.
The Medal pendant incorporates the prevalent mixed-metal trend found throughout home design today. While Medal pairs brushed nickel trim with a choice of coastal blue or graphite, many styles of Progress fixtures feature mixed-metal finish combinations. To create the mixed metal look in your home, begin by choosing lighting with a dominant metal color plus one or two accent colors; for example, matte black accented with gold and silver, or polished chrome with brushed brass. Then, choose your cabinet hardware, appliances, plumbing fixtures, and accessories by matching one or two of the finish colors from the lighting fixture.
Remember to consider lighting at the beginning of your home planning. When it comes to lighting your home, there are many choices for inspired lighting incorporates the best design and functionality for your space.
